NAMI Delaware and Morrow Counties offers free classes to educate about mental illness. We hope that these courses can help people to better understand their diagnosis or their loved one’s diagnosis, and also provide support and understanding.
We offer classes for people living with mental illness, as well as their family and friends. Please see below for course dates and descriptions.
For parents and caregivers with a child under 13 who is showing symptoms of mental illness
Are you the parent or caregiver of a child or young adult (age 22 or younger) who has mental health challenges or other emotional and behavioral challenges? This free six-week course helps parents and caregivers understand the biological basis of mental illness, and provides tips for dealing with challenging behavior as well as resources to help parents advocate for their children. We’ll also discuss the need for self-care, coping and communication skills. Registration is required.
The next Basics class will be held on Tuesdays, April 23 – May 28, from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm at The Meadow Center in Mount Gilead. Register online here.
NAMI Family to Family Education Program
For family members and loved ones of people with mental illness
NAMI Family-to-Family is a free 12-week course for family members and caregivers of people who have serious mental illness. Course topics include different mental illnesses and their symptoms, communication skills and problem solving. Registration is required.
The next Family to Family class will be held on Wednesdays, March 13 – May 29 from 6:00 – 8:30 pm.
NAMI Peer-to-Peer Education Program
For people living with mental illness
This 10-session course is for adults living with mental health challenges. NAMI Peer-to-Peer focuses on recovery and offers respect, understanding, encouragement, and hope. The course is taught by trained peer mentors who have firsthand experience with mental illness and who are living in recovery themselves. Registration is required.

NAMI Ending the Silence
NAMI Ending the Silence is an interactive 50-minute presentation that helps teens learn the warning signs of mental illness. This presentation also gives teenagers information about the steps they should take to find support for themselves or their friends. NAMI offers this presentation free of cost to schools, youth organizations, and communities.
