Peer to Peer Classes
“NAMI Peer-to-Peer has allowed me to take the focus off my illness and learn to balance it with the rest of my life.”
NAMI Peer-to-Peer is a free class for people with mental health symptoms.
If you’re living with a mental health condition, join us for NAMI Peer-to-Peer. It’s a free class where together we’ll learn more about mental health conditions and work on practical ways to cope with symptoms, prevent relapse, and find resources to help live with the symptoms of mental illness. The course is designed for anyone living experiencing mental health challenges who wants to achieve and maintain life in recovery.
The course is led by trained peer instructors who have personal, lived experience with a mental health condition.
Our instructors can understand what you’re going through because they’ve been there. In addition to training, instructors have also lived with their own mental health conditions. They want to help others find support and learn that they are not alone.
“NAMI Peer-to-Peer is uplifting, life-saving and an eye-opening experience that changed how I see myself.”
What does the course cover?
Over the eight weeks of Peer-to-Peer, you’ll learn information about mental health conditions as well as practice coping skills and create a relapse prevention plan. Through the course, you’ll get an overview of mental illnesses such as depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, among others. You’ll learn about the biology of mental illnesses and the physical changes in the brain, discuss the benefits and challenges of medication, and also practice coping skills such as meditation, mindfulness, and learn tools for decision making. In addition to the course content, you’ll have a chance to meet others who are facing similar challenges and who understand.
